The Minority Project was created by our founder Roddrick Jefferson to help those who are left behind in technology. A Minority is defined as a culturally, ethnically, or racially distinct group that coexists with but subordinate to a more dominant group. Inspired by a unique agitation to resolve a much needed problem in technology, he discovered that less than 15% of minorities are in the technology field. Roddrick is providing solutions to fix this threshold for those who are in a technical disparity. He created The Minority Project to address it. Our mentorship shapes their character and our coaching connects them to tools that will make a significant change.
We’re on a mission to increase the number of minorities in technology. According to Diversity in Tech, there’s a significant educational gap in technology amongst this demographic. Technology is evolving and we believe that having empowering solutions would make an impact and change the outlook of marginalized groups. From lack of resources to complex teaching, it becomes clear why giving up is accelerated or considered normal.
We identify how others learn and develop a teaching plan that’s consistent with our findings. Our mechanism is to make technical concepts relatable and easy to understand by using real life examples. We move at a comprehensive level and never skip steps by going through our “How To” method. Delivering information without examples creates confusion so making concepts simple improves retainability.
We have a 3 C mechanism: Character, Courage, and Competence. Character is identifying the purpose and cultivating the kind of character that’s consistent with it. Courage is doing it despite of fear with a “Do it Anyway” mentality. Competence is having a coach and mentor to facilitate transformation, developing the skills and tools that would create a significant change.
We follow a curriculum that outlines technical concepts that are used in the marketplace. In our research, we’ve discovered that a vast majority of minorities are unqualified for technical positions because they don’t have the necessary requirements for the role. This is a secondary gap that we are filling so that they can become equipped with the technical skillset.
We are respectful, truthful, and confident in our approach; we're reliable because dependability is our mission.
We are self aware which allows us to recover from challenges; we will always get back up because we are understanding.
We are focused on our priority which is to be an answer to a problem; we manage our efforts by staying committed.
